Question about new article

I see that you are on top of nominating articles for deletion and I would like to ask your opinion about one I am thinking about creating. It would be about a mixed drink called the "Skinny Bitch" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/wine/article7103884.ece. What do you think, delete or no?Jarhed (talk) 02:07, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's iffy... It might be a good idea to create it in userspace first, but it could survive as an article. I usually focus on commercial beverages, as companies get free advertising from us. Articles like this are harmless, and there seem to be a handful of not great references. There may be better references out there.

Wow thanks for taking so much time in your response, I appreciate it.--Jarhed (talk) 06:18, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yahoo! HotJobs

Hi, I was just going to query your recent removal of the Yahoo! HotJobs article, without merging any of the article's content into Monster.com's article. Was there any particular reason for the loss of content? TubularWorld (talk) 12:51, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I copied all of the text into notepad and started sifting through it, but I realized that none of the information that was unique was sourced. The is filled with irrelevant facts that I couldn't find sources for. But since the Monster.com article shares all of the same problems, I've now copied the text over. I should have offered more explaination at the time. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 15:39, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle merge tag

Thanks for fixing. These merge tags *always* confuse me, almost without fail. Thus it's a rare case that I manage to get it completely right, even after a few fixes. SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:35, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I thought they'd be confused if they thought someone was proposing merging Twinkle into FurMe. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 18:45, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FurMe and Twinkle

I am currently trying to figure out how to merge FurMe with Twinkle. The maintenance tagging part was easily fixed up. But the challenge is how to manage the remaining part (FUR tagging, and the "add/change image license" portion of the old "Tags" dialog). FurMe, as it stands, is fairly primitive and needs a complete overhaul, but none of us Twinkle devs (I speak on behalf of Amalthea and AzaToth) are especially experienced in dealing with file pages. So we thought to ask some users who are more experienced with file maintenance work about what they would like to have in a Twinkle-style FUR/license tagging tool. What are your thoughts? — This, that, and the other (talk) 12:02, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Infocom Cornerstone box art.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Infocom Cornerstone box art.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:15, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Designer's Augmented Reality Toolkit

Your rationale for removing the prod at Designer's Augmented Reality Toolkit was in my opinion incorrect. You cannot propose an article for deletion if it has previously been prodded or at AfD but there is not such restriction concerning previous speedy nominations. See the 3 items at WP:PROD#Procedure for administrators. However, I will treat it as a normal prod dispute and take it to AfD. Tassedethe (talk) 02:28, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2010s in comics has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Empty page with no development in 2 days since creation

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of List of Eidos games for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of Eidos games is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Eidos games until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. MrMarmite (talk) 11:49, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if you could clarify the intention of the page in questtion. What ere of Eidos games are you trying to capture here? There are many games on the list from before the Eidos/Sci merger. Cheers MrMarmite (talk) 14:49, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
At the time this article was started, it was intended to supersede all of the partial Eidos & SCi game lists. SCi had changed their name to Eidos as well, so I was including all of their games as well as those of companies they had purchased (just as Christopher Columbus is part of American History, even though the country didn't exist at the time). Then the buy-out was rumored, all of the supporting articles started moving around (before there were actual refs), and I lost interest. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 21:28, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. The list of games on the Eidos page seems fairly complete, as do those on the Square Enix site. Was your aim to have all of SCi's game from before the Eidos purchase as well as all the Eidos games from before then as well? If so, how far back, all the way to the start of Eidos, including Domark games...then would you also include US Gold Games, as US Gold was purchased by Eidos. The point I was trying to make is I can't understand what the target audience is, or what snapshot of Eidos's history you were trying to capture.
Like I said, the idea was to combine all of the games from companies that Eidos had purchased at that point, including games the studios had produced before being purchased by Eidos. My intention was 1) to make it easier to see all of those games without switching between 7 different articles (sortable lists make it so you can still group by studio), and 2) to highlight the rich history of IP that Eidos owned (which is, ironically, why SE bought them in the first place). Eidos was unique in that it retained the IP of most of the games it had ever produced, including those of the companies it had purchased. Compare this to THQ, which produces tons of games for other companies (either licensed deals for companies like Nickelodeon, or producing only the handheld version of another company's AAA title). Eidos has a long history of producing games for itself an maintaining rights, so that was my thinking when I started that list. But it doesn't matter what direction it goes in now. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 22:14, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

computer games are different than video games

Some early and bestselling computer games had only text. Many computer games had no video at all, but simple unmoving tile images, or still pictures covering each screen you visited with text to choose from. This was done for quite a long time. Video games referred to games on the television. I started a discussion at PC game[2] to rename it to computer game. Please don't automatically go through changing links to computer game into links to video game. In the article for Richard Garriott I reverted you, pointing out the first games he made on his schools computers were on a teletype machine, they not even having monitors back then, so no video at all. You just had things printed out on a piece of paper, sent information from your keyboard to a master server, and had information sent back, printing out things. Dream Focus 20:23, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Concur with Dream Focus. Computer role-playing games have a distinct history and set of characteristics that is other than video games, and other than "video role-playing games." It's just not the same thing. There's some blur, and some digital convergence, but even today "computer games" is different from "video games," and years ago the difference was even more pronounced. I'm not meaning to criticize your motives, JohnnyMrNinja, but you're way off-base here in my opinion. DanielM (talk) 19:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

May I ask for your assistance...?

Hi,

Are you still interested in the idea of at least some non-admins being able to view deleted pages? I understand that the proposal was shot down previously by foundation counsel; however I believe I have at least two possible answers to their concerns.

One possibility is to make this prospective (apparently the antonynm of retrospective although I'm not so sure) - that is to say that only edits deleted after its implementation can be viewed. For revisions such as libelous edits or copyright violations and so on, there can be a hard delete, lying some way between this soft delete and oversight, which will function just like a present deletion. Admins could also have the power to toggle a deletion from hard to soft (or to undelete) - so selected deletions made before this feature is implemented could be made soft.

The second possibility is to introduce a procedure somewhat like RFA where users are given permission to view deleted edits by the community. As admin privileges are currently granted not just based on trust in general, but also on trust that the tools will be used appropriately, there is a much greater pool of users who would be eligible to be given this permission.

And of course, it is perfectly possible to use both of these systems at once.

I have cross posted this to a few users who were active in the discussion in 2008 - I don't feel this is a violation of CANVASS because I have not made the proposal myself - the reality is I need an experienced Wikipedia with some "street cred" to make it. I already attempted to steer a discussion of a similar proposal this way, but sadly that discussion is irretrievable (see here - or even better, don't!). Because I have posted this to a few users, I would be greatful if you would reply at User_talk:Egg Centric/Proposal and perhaps we can get a discussion going!

Thank you!

BL Game merge

Hi! I noticed you merged BL game into Eroge; I wasn't aware this merger was proposed, and I can't find the discussion by searching, so if you have a moment, could I bother you to point out where this merge was discussed? I think the merge is a bit confusing, since BL games are not necessarily ero-games, and the term eroge is usually restricted to male-centric games. - JRBrown (talk) 18:32, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple deletions are easier if you bundle things

Hi, I noticed that you recently nominated a whole group of similar pages for deletion, with a separate discussion for each page. If you're planning to nominate more pages in the future, you might want to read WP:BUNDLE. Regards, Jowa fan (talk) 05:48, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that the pages are similar, they are not related; or more importantly, their potential notability is not related. These are all products in a similar category, but they all come from different manufacturers and are sold in different markets. If one is proven notable/non-notable, that would have no reflection on the others, and could derail the whole process. If they were all individual products from the same manufacturer, or if they included all products in a category, than bundling would be appropriate. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 06:00, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A structural solution to good-faith deletion battles

Hi Johnny. I appreciated your comments and the fact that you said you would open to a "shared draft" space under the right circumstances. Would you look over Wikipedia:Deletions and Openness and see what you think?

The point of my VPP post was never just for me to whine about it. The point is to try to 'out think' these problems so they stop happening over and over. I think we can do that as long as we meet the needs of both content contributors AND quality-control editors. We're not going to 'pick a winning side' in the deletion/inclusionist war-- but we CAN try to make it less necessary for them to fight. --HectorMoffet (talk) 08:35, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You really *don't* need to CSDA7 six year old articles when a regular prod would do fine. Please at least give other editors a chance to review it. Duo-Tang was a long standing brand. Cheers.--Milowenthasspoken 15:08, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The logo you uploaded is the correct one, but you seem to have replaced the old one in the table of processor models. I was just thinking that a new row with the new logo should be added to the "logo" column, just below the old one. If you revert to the old logo and give a unique file name to the new one, I can make the necessary edit. Thanks for uploading the image. Digital infinity (talk) 00:04, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Seamus (dog)

I undid your modification to the Seamus article regarding the dog being 'hosed-down' instead of 'washed.' The word 'hosed-down' is a colloquialism, and I'm not sure if it belongs in an encyclopedia article unless the original sources specifically use that terminology. The Snopes article which is cited as a reference for that sentence uses the word 'sprayed'. Three of the external links attached to that article use the term 'washed'.

  • "Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney transported a dog atop his car". Snopes. January 21, 2008.
  • David Edwards (December 23, 2011). "Romney on Irish setter strapped to car roof: Love my dog". The Raw Story.
  • Angie Drobnic Holan (September 13, 2011). "Mitt Romney and the dog on the car roof: one columnist's obsession". PolitiFact.com.

Hi there, I'm glad we have reached a consensus. I added and then removed the Wasteland project after discussion at the OOTS drive project page. (Even though it's completed there is still a fair amount of chitchat there.) Hi there. Thanks for reviewing my DYK submission here. I replied to your comment several days ago and accepted the ALT 2 you proposed. Would you please complete the review when you get a chance? Cheers, --Zanhe (talk) 05:13, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Mother's Day article

See Human-animal breastfeeding, which I'll put up for DYK shortly. It's easily the weirdest article I've ever written, which is saying something considering some of my past contributions! Prioryman (talk) 20:01, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

.... wha? How do you choose a hook from that‽ The entire thing is a massive hook. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 20:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, here's your hook... Template:Did you know nominations/Human-animal breastfeeding. Prioryman (talk) 20:44, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's now on Portal:Germany. If you have other DYK related to Germany, please feel free to place it there yourself. Thanks for improving the Dieter Thomas Heck pic for the Main page! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:32, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It was pretty easy, and hopefully it helped draw a few more people to read the excellent article. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 06:36, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it did, it came close to the stats. Tell the author that you like it, that article has a looong history, planned in December ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:41, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this should redirect to the disambiguation page instead of moving the song's page here; I don't think this is clearly the dominant subject for the search term "Wipe Out". Thoughts? -RunningOnBrains(talk) 06:07, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I defer to your judgement. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 06:08, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
