Welcome, Codename Lisa!

Hello, Codename Lisa, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm Mr. Stradivarius, one of the thousands of editors here at Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

  The five pillars of Wikipedia

  Fun stuff...
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Regarding your message to me on my modification being rolled back, please view http://www.visualstudiolaunch.com/vs2012vle/Home ; Looks like "Modern app" is correct to me.

Archiving

You've been here a while, done some really good stuff, hoping you will stick around longer. You might want to start archiving your talk page. The bot will do it for you. You can pretty much steal the code off my talk page (I use much larger archive sizes than most, 3x larger), or just go to User:MiszaBot III page for into. It isn't required of course, but I'm betting you will find it handy. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 20:00, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Codename Lisa! I've cheekily added an archive box for you, as I noticed there wasn't a link to your archive on this page. Feel free to remove it if you don't like it (of course), or if you want to customise it, the documentation is at {{archive box}}. RE: Succession in Windows 7

Hi, and thanks for your message. By 'was succeeded by', I am using the word as the past tense of 'succeed', simply inferring that Win8 was released as next in line. See the first definition of 'succe. Present tense would be, IMO, grammatically incorrect here, as the event (release of successor) has already happened, and is therefore in the past.

Illustrating the point on the definition of 'succeeded', may I point you to the Windows XP page. It states that "It was succeeded by Windows Vista in January 2007", although it has never been, at any point in time, more dominant than Vista. Additionally, on the point of irrelevant information, all editions of Windows (I checked right back to 98! ^^) has some variant of 'it was succeeded by *** on *date*'. I believe I am justified in placing that information on the Windows 7 page.

Regardless, I will hold off editing that page until we resolve this matter. Thank you! P0150neD r1Ce asian 01:13, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again!
I can see the beginnings of a massive grammar fight, as well a full blown argument of the suitability of WP:OTHERSTUFF in this context, but hey, your idea sounds great to me, so who cares! I was just asking for a specific date to be put in anyway, so I think everyone's happy this way.
Thanks for the reasonable comments and civil suggestions! Thumbs up to you for friendliness!

Prem Rawat

Greetings CL, since I'm sure Guy and MedCom are discussing us behind closed doors I thought we should chat.Momento (talk) 10:10, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Momento. Please identify yourself and tell me what you'd like to chat about. And what is Prem Rawat?
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 10:18, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm Momento. I like to chat about about the Med Com and Guy. A teacher.Momento (talk) 10:36, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. That much I could infer from your initial message. I was asking about the subject of your discussion which according to you, involves Steven Zhang, Guy Macon and MedCom. How do this whole thing involve me? And if you wish to discuss anything, please begin; I am all ears. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 10:48, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We're both involved at a Med Com candidacy, so I thought we could talk about that. Let's finish here and continue at my place.Momento (talk) 11:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, we were not. This is the first time I meet you. But I noticed you called me CL. We have a User:CL in Wikipedia. Are you sure I am the right person? A link also helps a lot. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 11:13, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Things you might want to consider before getting involved with this:
Prem Rawat is a page about a religious leader with several editors who are either followers or opponents, and they have been fighting about it for years. Take a look at these links:

BTW, I have not sent or received any off-wiki emails concerning you. I did get two emails (not from anyone involved with medcom) about Momento, basically advising me to ignore him. I have not responded to either email. Nobody is talking about either of you off-wiki, and I welcome your recent criticism -- the committee needs to see opinions of those who think poorly of me in order to make a good decision. --Guy Macon (talk) 12:56, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Microsoft Exchange Server, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Proprietary (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

You have my sympathy

You have my sympathy about this incident with Neimti. He just did an edit on this page and how he could use that kind of expression? He might as well have insulted you. I have worked with him, but hopefully he will not use those kinds of expressions with me. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:23, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was not in the least offended. Actually, so far I thought it was a compliment for preventing the article from being devoid of an image. For the moment, I don't mind. I'll see what happens in the future. I will then decide whether to bail on this article or carry on.
In fact, I liked Neimti. I worked with him on Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children article. The atmosphere there was so thick that I knew the moment I edit the article for its problem, I'll be reverted. Fortunately, Neimti noted the problem and acted.
Best regards,

I know your removing any unnecessary trival parts of that page. But Overlord is considered not that trival in my view. It's someone any American armed forces can contact for gives intel and information. BattleshipMan (talk) 16:15, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please carry this discussion over to Talk:List of Call of Duty characters. Thanks! Some guy (talk) 01:21, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

REPLY TO YOU

Hi Codename Lisa,

I am Himanis Das. (Personal information removed.) I am familiar with wikipedia but today i first i have learnt to edit pages/articles in wikipedia.

So, i started editing on article windows 8, after some time i found that you have removed my changes.

You see i am a beginner in editing pages and didn't know much like you.

Hope you reply back and i will be waiting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Himanis Das (talkcontribs) 11:47, 11 November 2012 (UTC) I've copied this from my talk page and revision-deleted some personally identifying information. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Good luck

I plan to stay out of the COD thing. I hope my replies haven't offended you, as I let a bit too much anger at the other editor through. I've had brushes with him before in trying to include unreliable sourced data in other COD articles and let it get the best of me. -- ferret (talk) 02:48, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You didn't seem angry at all. And I didn't exactly mind when you commented on the contributor there. Maybe it was partly because he had earlier told me: "Don't condescend to me!" but mainly because commenting on the contributor is allowed when doing so causes less damage than not doing so. I am not planning to stay out of CoD issue completely but I am also not going to go headlong into the thick of it. I'll insert an RfC and see what happens.
Best regards,

You may want to look at Talk:Call of Duty, as someone is relaying your thoughts for you. -- ferret (talk) 00:30, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: IE8

Hello, In regards to my edit of IE8, I am speaking through experience when I say that there isn't a Server 2003 IA-64 version of IE8. I own an Itanium server currently running Server 2003 and have spent days scouring the Microsoft website for such a version. I have also never received a MS update containing it either. -Nickenzi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickenzi (talkcontribs) 15:00, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance: Microsoft Security Essentials

This is a note to let the main editors of Microsoft Security Essentials know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 23, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 23, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Microsoft Security Essentials wordmark

Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus software product that provides protection against different types of malware such as computer viruses, spyware, rootkits and Trojan horses. It runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, but not on Windows 8, which has a built-in AV component. The license agreement allows home users and small businesses to install and use the product free of charge. It replaces Windows Live OneCare, a discontinued commercial subscription-based AV service, and the free Windows Defender, which until Windows 8 only protected users from adware and spyware. Built upon the same virus definitions and scanning engine as other Microsoft antivirus products, MSE provides real-time protection, constantly monitoring activities on the computer and scanning new files as they are downloaded or created and disabling detected threats. The product received generally positive reviews praising its user interface, low resource usage and freeware license. It passed secured AV-TEST.org certification, having demonstrated its ability to eliminate all widely encountered malware. According to a March 2012 report by anti-malware specialist OPSWAT, MSE was the most popular AV product in North America and the second most popular in the world. (Full article...)

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Microsoft Security Essentials". Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you!

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Dispute over FA status Microsoft Security Essentials

MSE FA dispute

Thank you for that olive branch on my talk page a couple of days ago. I can tell you that I appreciate it. I decided to hold off replying since I saw from someone's talk page that it was scheduled for going up on the main page today. I decided to hold off as a result - there's raising a dispute and deliberately throwing spanners in the works in a purely disruptive manner.

As for the issues underlying my objections I think I've best summed them up in the failed FAR nomination so I'll refer back to that since compiling that kind of data takes some time. The key element is that the reviews for this product in the round fall roughly into three equal camps, the good, the bad and the indifferent. In my view there is a clear bias towards the favourable ones in the coverage of reviews.

Phrases such as "The public beta version received several positive reviews" are inherently problematic since they distort the situation - it also received several negative reviews - mentioning one without the other is not balanced. What even counts as a favourable review is often subject to overly positive interpretation too since of the "score inflation" so many reviewers use. It is easy to read a review and see a score of 75% and describe that as "positive" when in reality it may be purely average. This is more transparent in group comparison where nothing scores lower than say 60% than in isolated reviews but that score can't legitimately be described as "good" if it is in the bottom half of the usual range of scorings. As such in group tests MSE often receives a "favourable" score in isolation but comes out poorly in comparison to its competitors. As Tony Smith, an editor at the Register explained in a recent discussion of this very issue[1]:

I take your point, and we considered doing just that at one point, or rather assigning a base level of 50% for 'works as it should' giving us scope to push the score up for stand-out kit and room below for poor offerings.
Trouble is, readers generally seem to assume that such a score means that the product is crap and therefore not worth reading about.

Of course, I raised most of these points at FAC but not as forcefully or with as full a case as I might have. It's difficult to read how FAC noms are going a lot of the time, in part due to the essentially random and arbitrary timescales used. After a case has been closed possibly unexpectedly it appears there is no mechanism for going back and disputing that. The FA triumvirate as to all intents and purposes unaccountable to the community since they are responsible for reviewing their own decisions - that is all I have ever wanted, an opportunity to challenge this decision. I will be taking this lack of accountability to Arbcom, but that is a procedural matter as opposed to in relation to this case specifically, and in any case not today while it is on the front page.

Trying to fix the deficiencies in the article via the talk page is always going to encounter resistance: I can understand editors who worked on the article for some time going on the defensive, especially once it has a degree of "official" approval. Regularly working away for weeks at a time doesn't really help me make my case since it inevitably appears I've dropped it and come back for a fresh bite of the cherry. While I still have internet connectivity at work you really don't feel like getting involved in petty online squabbles at the end of a 14 hour shift.

PS: use four tildes to sign, not five which gives a timestamp only - I know it's easily done but I had to check the edit history to see who had written those comments. Quantumsilverfish (talk) 01:55, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
