    Guideline and policy news

    • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
    • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
    • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

    Technical news

    • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

    Miscellaneous

    • Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
    • A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

    Hi,

How do you do? For my part, it's always CAS numbers questions^^ and today it's about 1,3-dioxolane for which all wp versions give CAS number #646-06-0 but I found here, second item, CAS #4362-13-4! WHY ?? c'est quoi ce bintz? in french. Please Edgar, I still need your help to understand. Regards --Titou (talk) 15:15, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    CAS# 646-06-0 is 1,3-dioxolane. CAS# 4362-13-4 is 1,2-dioxolane. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:22, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    24.39.129.50

Hi Ed. Just a heads-up that regarding your block of 24.39.129.50 (talk contribs WHOIS), this user has admitted to block evasion of an indefinitely blocked account. Thanks. epicgenius (talk) 16:13, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:19, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    You forgot

You forgot to put a block notice on Ass salads talk page. Just to let you know. --TheWinRat (talk) 16:21, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Yeah, it looks like I missed that. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:54, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much and i hope you can help me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Airbesi (talkcontribs) 22:19, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not going to create that page for you. You've been given ample reasons on your talk page why it's not an appropriate topic for Wikipedia. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:47, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You actually did not remove the offending file and just revdel'ed it, still exposing the file to the public. You may want to revisit the page and hide one more edit. (File was deleted) — regards, Revi 13:35, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Thanks for letting me know. It's gone now. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:37, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    request for svg image

for diphenyldiselenide as I think the current one is drawn wrong Mfernflower (talk) 00:17, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The current image appears to be consistent with the chemical structure as determined by x-ray crystallography. See the file description at File:Diphenyl-diselenide-from-xtal-2010-Mercury-3D-sf.png for the source of the structure data. Drawing the two phenyl groups with wedge bonds intuitively "feels" wrong at first, but I think is appropriate. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:29, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like User:Widr has already taken care of it. Thanks, Widr. And thanks, Guy, for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:27, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read my objection to the deletion? JorgeLaArdilla (talk) 21:18, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but I believe the deletion was appropraite per the cited criteria. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:19, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
To me it is common sense. But it is consensus as well: redirects in all capps are routinely nominated at WP:RFD and always lead to deletion with reference to WP:RCAPS. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:30, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ie it is neither implausible, a typo or a misnomer (The G3 crieria you claim). JorgeLaArdilla (talk) 21:33, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You and I have different definitions of implausible, I suppose. -- Ed (Edgar181)
not seeming reasonable or probable is mine. What is yours? (Why am I having to repeat myself- oh you deleted my original comment) JorgeLaArdilla (talk) 21:39, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Edit summary removal

Sorry to bother you, but when I published this edit my device made a bizarre autocorrect of the edit summary, and it's bound to be confusing for those looking at the page history, so could you please remove the summary?

    Thank you, Entranced98 (talk) 16:35, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The criteria by which administrators are permitted to redact edit summaries is actually quite limited (see WP:CRD) and doesn't cover this type of situation. Your edit summary is harmless, so I wouldn't worry about it. However, you can follow the suggestion at Help:Edit_summary#Fixing about making a dummy edit to clarify the edit summary of you wish. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:34, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks, it's now sorted with a dummy edit :) Entranced98 (talk) 17:55, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Would you update Module:Citation/CS1?

    I updated its sandboxes to suport ChemRxiv. If you update Module:Citation/CS1, Module:Citation/CS1/COinS, Module:Citation/CS1/Identifiers, Module:Citation/CS1/Whitelist and Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration, we can use {{Cite ChemRxiv}}. --Sharouser (talk) 01:56, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please, do not. At first blush, this change looks like it might work but there has been no testing; no discussion; nothing to prove that it is wanted, or that it works. Discussion should take place at Help talk:Citation Style 1. Ping Sharouser.
    Trappist the monk (talk) 02:21, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm open to the possibility of adding ChemRxiv, but I agree that this is definitely something that should be discussed before any change is implemented. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Because Sharouser has declined to discuss the changes to the sandboxen at Help talk:Citation Style 1, I have reverted those changes.

    Administrators' newsletter – March 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2019).

    Guideline and policy news

    Technical news

    • A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.

    Arbitration

    • The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
      • paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
      • checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

    Carbon black

Hello, I don't know how to start a new conversation at the bottom, but I am confused about the article on carbon black. Someone has cited mitsubishi as saying carbon is a good conductor of electricity, then they say mitsubishi uses it as anti static additive agent in their fuel caps. I googled the conductivity of carbon and found it very low. Please explain how it is a good conductor. Also I would like to make toilet plungers for a living. How might I make the cheapest plunger rubber that you can think of? I was going to use a DIY heated press mold but maybe there's a better way. Please point me in the right direction. Thank you sir. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.242.113.11 (talk) 03:28, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Pentapeptide

Hello. Please can you help to fix the incoming links to Pentapeptide? The two meanings are confusingly similar to the layman, so I think it needs a subject expert to tell them apart. Thanks, Certes (talk) 14:44, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've have now disambiguated them all. Thanks for letting me know. I should have realized that this needed to be done when I converted the page to a dab page. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:00, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Can you comment?

You just deleted 2 pages that I CSDed, thus I would really like if you could share your 2 cents on this discussion. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:49, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I don't have anything productive to say. Simply redirecting them or deleting them per WP:CSD#G8 are both perfectly fine and functionally equivalent options. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:53, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Edgar181, would you mind saying just that? Having an admin comment on the thread would be helpful (whether you agree with my statement or not). Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:57, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I made my comment there. I suspect the wikilawyering types will not be happy.:) -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:06, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Recently blocked IP

    See User talk:74.0.75.206#March 2019. May need a range block here. Amaury (talk | contribs) 17:54, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment there isn't a range to block (as far as I can tell), but I'll keep an eye out for related problematic editing. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:59, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion of J. Mark McWatters Page

Hi, I am requesting for a page I created for J.Mark McWatters to be deleted. I understand that multiple users have edited this page and this was the reasoning as to why I could not receive a speedy deletion. I tried proposing a deletion but that was rejected as well without explanation. I am affiliated with the individual I created the page for and I am asking for the page to be removed.PublikTrust (talk) 16:00, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to nominate the page for deletion using WP:AFD, but I don't think it is likely that the page would be deleted. If you are affiliated with the subject of the article or with other things you have written about on Wikipedia, such as National Credit Union Administration, you should have a look at Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest which are described at WP:COI and WP:PAID. BabyTrumpTour

I see that you have (quite reasonably) blocked User:BabyTrumpTour, but also that you have not left an explanation on the account's talk page. Please do so. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:56, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
