Soliciting Help

Hi Beemer69,

Thanks so much for your recent help editing my nephew Duncan Kelm's page. I admit I am a mere novice on here and very much appreciate the help. I am working on the page as a tribute to my nephew, and hope to have it to a good point by his birthday.

I am doing my best to source the article, and there are plenty of mentions of him throughout different sources, so I thought those would be good. Some of his old teammates, Colin Hawley, Zack Test, etc. have far fewer sources, so I thought I was doing a reasonable job citing. I wanted to get your opinion on how I could go about fixing the article to get it up to the standards required.

Again, thank you for your help and dedication to this community. It is very much appreciated.

Regards,

Rugby Idol (talk) 00:49, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

   Hi Beemer69,
Wondering if you had any advice on how to improve the sources or the article. Thanks! :)

Mortal Kombat characters

Greetings. I have been seeing your work in most Mortal Kombat characters and they are pretty good (especially Ermac). Do you plan to nominate one of them to GA? I think they could easily become GAs. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 17:30, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Nice. I never really gave a thought to nominating them before, thinking the characters weren't that important, so I thank you very much for the vote of confidence (and because I'm an idiot, just now I'm replying to this). :') sixtynine • speak up • 01:18, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
If you need advices about the article before a nomination, I would recommend you to start a peer review. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:27, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Mai Shiranui

Feel free to rewrite whatever you want. I didn't edit that page. It was a former member who got banned due to problems with his behaviour. Cheers and keep up with the good work.Tintor2 (talk) 01:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

By the way, I tried expanding Lars Alexandersson's reception and creation sections. Could you take a look? My prose is not very good. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:23, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Wow, you were a busy bee. :') There are a few minor prose issues that I'll gladly tidy up (currently at a location with a horrible signal), but overall it's looking good. I'd started working on that article some time ago but fell off, so I thank you for picking up the slack. sixtynine • speak up • 17:03, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Long time no talk. Lars became a GA after the copyedit it was given and also the many touches Uker gave it. You know Uker, right? I think he said he worked in Subzero's article. Other than that I have not done much except expanding a bit Liu Kang and Jin Kazama's article. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:37, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Wow, it has been awhile, hasn't it? Congrats on the Lars GA; sorry I never got around to copyediting it like you'd asked. I didn't get to it right away because I ended up falling into another article revision in my sandbox. Haven't heard Uker's name in some time (thanks for the namedrop on his page!). I'll look through Ermac a couple more times (just dumped a surplus citation) before finally submitting it for GA. Always nice to hear from you, my friend, and take care. :') sixtynine • speak up • 17:42, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ermac

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Ermac you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Freikorp -- Freikorp (talk) 12:01, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

@Freikorp: Sweet! Thanks very much. sixtynine • speak up • 12:27, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi sixtynine. I'll be working through the article and pointing out all issues I see with it over the next few days. If you didn't know, I have already left some comments at the nomination: see here. Just curious, is this your first GA nomination? Don't worry, I'm only asking as I'm likely to give you more time to address concerns if it is.
I currently have a video-game character article nominated for featured status which I am looking for comments on: see here. I'm particularly interested in your opinion as a female editor on the article as another female editor has made accusations that there are ongoing issues of sexism in the article. Maybe it's just because I am a heterosexual male but for the life of me I can't see any. If you've never commented on a featured nomination before, it isn't too daunting. As you can see at the nomination, many editors have left a single line saying they support it whereas other editors have left paragraphs saying why they don't. I'd appreciate your opinion on the article, thought please don't feel obligated to review it just because I'm reviewing your article. I review articles because I enjoy it, not to make people feel like they owe me one. Also if you do oppose the nomination please state this and give as much explanation as to why; don't feel like I'll retaliate by opposing you nomination purely because you opposed mine haha. That being said, just a heads up, when I get to reviewing the sources in Ermac I can already see from a glance that several of them are going to need to be removed on the grounds they fail the standards of WP:RS. For example, iUniverse is a self-publishing company and therefore this source and anything it backs up must be removed as per WP:SPS. Just thought I'd give you a heads up that there may be serious problems with the sources, but I will help you through it as much as I can. Have a nice day. Freikorp (talk) 22:45, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
@Freikorp: Thank you for thinking of me in regards to the JV discussion. Admittedly, I've never commented GA/FA noms before because I've never been sure if I'm up to snuff in comparison to more experienced VG article editors. In the meantime, I saw your notes on the Ermac review page and will work on tidying up the prose and sourcing. It is indeed my first GA nomination, and what's funny about WP is that what looks good years ago doesn't always carry over to the present. Go figure. :) sixtynine • speak up • 22:54, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
Re looked good years ago: Haha yeah that's completely understandable, I know the feeling. Oh just so you know, don't feel put off about commenting on an FA for the specific reason that there are more experienced VG editors. Several of the reviewers commenting on the nomination actually have zero experience with video-game articles. This is fine though, as ideally you'd want some reviews from people who are not subject matter experts to gauge how well the article reads to a general audience. Anyway as you may have noticed I've now finished reviewing concerns regarding the article's prose (though will probably go over this again once the current issues are addressed) and will probably start reviewing the references tomorrow. :) Freikorp (talk) 01:07, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pup 'N' Taco, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Route 66 (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your GA nomination of Ermac

The article Ermac you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Ermac for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Freikorp -- Freikorp (talk) 13:41, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Congrats Beemer69. It must have been hard with such a big article. Wonder if you are interested in making more Mortal Kombat GAs. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 14:32, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Thanks! It was quite a ride. Yeah, I was surprised how much stuff I ended up having to clean out, to the tune of cutting the article in half and dumping nearly eighty sources. In fact, I regularly peeked at Lars Alexandersson for an idea of how a GA character article was formatted. I do look forward to fixing up other MK character articles in the future since I have some idea of what to do now. :) sixtynine • speak up • 22:18, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

I would recommend using FA Lightning (Final Fantasy) as a model (I used it for other articles too). Despite not being a fighting game character, it managed to stand out pretty well. Good luck with Cage's article.Tintor2 (talk) 03:32, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Wondergirls

After I added significant information regarding Wondergirls in what was more in statement form than in Wikipedia format, I happened to stay on long enough to see it removed. I read you had removed it & looked at your profile to see who would delete it all. The information was true & accurate & there weren't enough facts in the history, which I got from 2 of 3 band members, the 3rd my friend Scott Weiland. I looked at all the things you said you are on here, you even get mad like I do at the problem with a generation confused by simple words... Your & you're much less ur, & there they're their & more that bothers me daily. It mentioned your contributions, your slogan to contribute, & 19404 edit/removals, that's my number. I figure this person I see that I agree with in character by your profile, that since I didn't add to Wondergirls in format, & that you dislike trivia I would not only join, but come & add this discussion. In what way could my "contribution" have been added, if at all, & what elaboration given that was inaccurate be corrected & updated? Certainly as a first hand witness with facts I'd like to learn from someone like you so a potential 2nd attempt would be accepted. Thank you. Mikefoley2015 (talk) 23:33, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

COI on Lone Sailor

Thanks for helping me understand the content rules. I am a neophyte Wikipedia contributor. I wanted to provide concrete proof that I was the model for the Lone Sailor statue. I possess a copy of the letter that sculptor Stanley Bleifeld sent to the President of the Navy Memorial in 1987 stating that I was the model. I also possess a letter written to me by Bleifeld, in his own hand, thanking me for being the model. I don't know how to link to a .pdf or .jpeg of these letters. Full disclosure, the current Navy Memorial leadership's position is the statue was created using an amalgam of photos of various sailors. That isn't factual and I possess multiple original documents and photographs that I can provide as objective quality evidence. Thanks again, Dan Maloney RealLoneSailor (talk) 19:34, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

Macrobiotic Diet

Hello Beemer69,

Thank you for your message regarding my updates to the macrobiotic diet. Much of the current page is out of date and inaccurate. I have tried to make very small alterations to bring it up to date and better describe what it is. The parts I changed had no references. I do have a very long term knowledge of macrobiotics. I am the chair of the Macrobiotic Association and founder member of Macrobiotics International. These are both non profit organisations. I understand the issues of self promotion and have made great effort not to use the page for my own benefit. I have left all the criticisms in place. In addition I referenced the books that substantiated the corrections.

I really hope we can work together to make this page better reflect the current practice and interpretation of macrobiotics. Please suggest anything you need from me.

All the very best,

Hi. I notice you made an edit introducing a piped link to avoid a redirect. Because of the contentious nature of that particular page, long held consensus says that there should be no piping to avoid either a redirect or a redlink. The only way a redlink can become blue on the page is if the link itself IS a redirect - which "Dik Mik" was, to the article "Hawkwind". I've therefore reverted, and if you have further questions on this, then myself and other regulars are freely available by opening a new section in the Talk page there. Thanks. Gayle Chong Kwan

Good work! Perhaps you could take a similar look at Beatrice Catanzaro, Hartslane, Seph Lawless; this is a field that relies on publicity and attracts promotionalism. DGG ( talk ) 02:23, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

@DGG: I myself nominated Beatrice Catanzaro for deletion awhile back, and just voted to delete the Hartslane article, but voted a weak keep for Seph Lawless. Judging from what I've seen so far, yeah, the art genre on Wikipedia is very promotion-based. Thanks for writing. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 23:41, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Loner Novel Edits

Hi Beemer, I'm not angry cuz it seems like your intentions are good, but I was wondering why you reverted half of the Wiki page for Teddy Wayne's novel Loner. (Especially cuz you seem more interested in video games than indie novels.)You mentioned removing a "ridiculous amount of promotional material," but this material was actually researched and written by my students at the University of South Florida. We did this as a class to learn how to write on the web. Obviously it was far from perfect but I can assure you were weren't trying to "promote" or "market" anything. Many of the students were looking forward to showing their families what they had done on the web over break and I hope you consider reverting their work back. And if you can clean up the formatting while you're doing so, much appreciated.

Peace,

@SNAAAAKE!!: I think it's a good idea for characters who have extensive coverage like Mai does, so in her case it's just right. There was hardly anything out there about Ermac's designs until MKX brought a goldmine of information. But for lesser characters, they're fine inside the "in video games" sections just to avoid a bunch of tiny one-or-two-sentence subsections. Cheers. sixtynine • whaddya want? •

A pleasure Beemer69, I ask you something. You have done a very good job editing the article of "Madballs" in English, the classic balls of our childhood (At least mine). Jill Valentine

Hi. I realise you only participated briefly at this article's last peer review, but I was wondering if you'd be interested in looking at Jill Valentine again and seeing if there's any way I can improve it before I renominate it at FAC? I've been working on the article for several months [on-and-off] at this point, and I'm pretty happy with it now, but I'd appreciate any advice you might have. I've got lots of stuff to share about Jill if you want. SNAAAAKE!! (talk) 06:02, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@SNAAAAKE!!: I thank you for the offer but I'm good, as I'm not really invested in the article subject.
@Homeostasis07: The "appearances" section of the article looks great; it has a solid amount of content that doesn't go into excess fancruft and overlinking. I have made some minor tweaks to the reception section. As a whole the article is nicely restrained (if that's the appropriate word), because the temptation is there to go all out with a character of her magnitude; when submitting Ermac for GA status I ended up having to cut the article in half.
All that being said, you both have the right to flay me alive for my laziness as I'm f---ing horrible at responding especially when I'm going through my semiannual drop-offs in Wiki editing due to outside interests. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 17:30, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your edits, Beemer69. And no worries about only finishing up now. You may have noticed that I'm still discussing with another user on the talk page, so there's still some work to do. I don't really know when they will be (I guess whenever the conversation on the talk page wraps up), so it's cool if you don't have the time. ;) Homeostasis07 (talk) 22:56, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
@Homeostasis07: I'll attempt to read the article in its entirety. Between work, the wildfire mess out here and the ongoing process of going to multiple places to donate stuff, it's been a bit of a tumultuous month so far. However, chances are I'll like what I see, given you and Freikorp having worked yourselves to the bone on this. (Plus, any continued correspondence on the subject will be restricted to your and my talk pages, as the article talk pages make me feel like a mouse in a crowded room. :) Cheers! sixtynine • whaddya want? • 02:17, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
Damn Beemer. I hope you don't mind me jumping to conclusions, but I've assumed you're referring to the California wildfires. It's unreal to think that someone I've been talking to on Wikipedia has been affected by those horrible things I've heard about on the news. You definitely have a much more pressing situation to deal with than an FA nomination, so it's completely understandable if you can't comment. I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you, and wishing that you and all your family and friends escape the worst of it. Homeostasis07 (talk) 01:23, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
@Homeostasis07: Aw, thank you! *hugs* I personally am okay; where I live (San Fran) is not in any danger of actual fire itself. But the smoke is off the charts and the weather is not cooperating, and as a result we're currently the most polluted city in the world. It's a pain having to wear a mask outdoors but things could be a lot worse. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 01:37, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm happy to hear that. "600+ missing" is unreal. I hope things get better for everyone soon. Homeostasis07 (talk) 01:49, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Foundation for the Study of Cycles

Thank you for please leaving our edits regarding the Foundation for the Study of Cycles, Beemer69. I am the Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation and would like for there to be correct information on this page. You can see our official Foundation Leadership page here: https://foundationforthestudyofcycles.org/executive-summary/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thesocializers (talkcontribs) 16:37, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

@Thesocializers: Please see Wikipedia: Conflict of interest. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 16:39, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

How can we maintain accurate info here, @Beemer69? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thesocializers (talkcontribs) 16:43, 24 December 2018 (UTC) Thesocializers (talk) 17:05, 24 December 2018 (UTC) Source is the official Foundation for the Study of Cycles page.

(talk page watcher) @Thesocializers: Your website is considered a valid primary source. As long as you are using it for uncontroversial updates to facts (names of key personnel, number of employees, etc.) then it should be fine. It is a problem if you were to use it for any interpretation of the material - we requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation.
As Beemer69 noted, please be sure to review Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline and also the paid contribution disclosure policy, if it applies to you. I would advise you not to make any more edits to the article directly, but rather propose changes on the article talk page, where an uninvolved editor can review them. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:21, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
Ok thank you very much for guidance, all!! Thesocializers (talk) 17:30, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
@Thesocializers: Drm310 verbalized the issue much better than I could. Enjoy your stay here on WP. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 18:16, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
