📢 145 BioIndustry Association (BIA) CEOs signed a letter to the Chancellor urging support for R&D tax relief ➡ https://lnkd.in/eGDUTGDn With the Chancellor’s Budget on 30 October, there's an opportunity to boost the #UKeconomy 💹 by supporting long-term #Investment in #LifeSciences 🌱 Targeted R&D tax relief is vital for the biotech sector, identified as a priority for economic growth by Rt Hon Rachel Reeves. However, to ensure effectiveness, changes should be carefully considered and backed by solid economic evidence. It’s time to protect this crucial lifeline for genuine R&D, preventing abuse by non-research sectors and ensuring innovation thrives in the UK💡 #RDTaxRelief #Biotech #Innovation #Budget2024 #LifeSciences

Last week, the UK House of Lords Science and Technology Committee gathered insights from academics and industry leaders pivotal in driving the UK's #COVID-19 #vaccine rollout ⬇ 📌 Dr Alexander (Sandy) Douglas, 📌 Dr Adam Ritchie, Professor Cath Green OBE 📌 Dr James Miskin. This included how to strengthen future #Pandemic 🦠 preparedness and enhance collaboration on scale-up and #Manufacturing between #Government🏛️, #Industry⚙️ and #Academia 🎓 🔬 Professor Green recalled how the BioIndustry Association (BIA) and its members responded swiftly to her "distress call" for manufacturing support following the successful phase 1 trial of the #OxfordVaccine 💉 💉Our industry survey and task force helped establish a crucial consortium of SMEs, kickstarting the rapid scaling of vaccine production and laying the groundwork for the Government Vaccines Taskforce (VTF) and collaboration with multinational pharmaceutical companies 👏 Dr Douglas – ‘To start with, we didn’t have connections … the actual discussion that made things happen was brokered by Ian McCubbin CBE and the BIA’s Vaccine manufacturing taskforce’ 🤝 ‘The UK is blessed to have a close-knit BIA network with individuals who care’ reflected Dr Miskin, who believed that having a group of like-minded individuals who got together early on was key to the success of the vaccine roll-out. The panel’s suggestions to ensure future preparedness ⬇ 🔺 A ‘Peacetime’ #VaccinesTaskforce to maintain technical capabilities for future crises. 🔺Supporting creative, innovative academic manufacturing and idea generation, both in universities and small #Biotech companies 🔺 Delivering on the UK’s 2023 Biological Security Strategy, and the appointment of a #Biosecurity minister 🔺Strengthening the #UK’s supply chain. We are proud of the role our members played during the COVID-19 pandemic and remain committed to driving innovation and collaboration to ensure the UK is prepared for any future pandemic challenges 👏 For more information please visit ➡ https://lnkd.in/e2Q-C2SQ #BIA #VaccineRollout #PandemicPreparedness #Biosecurity #UKInnovation #LifeSciences
