“We've all been there—stuck in a crowd at a concert, a baseball game, or other large-scale events, struggling to share a video clip or connect with friends because the cell network is jammed.” Taara recently worked with T-Mobile to help with this common problem and provide hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers with fast, reliable service at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival and Coachella. “It’s an absolute quagmire. But it’s a beautiful challenge, because when you have all these things coming together, you have a real opportunity to do things differently.” Tapestry’s Page Crahan joined the latest episode of Google’s “Where the Internet Lives” podcast to discuss how her team is tackling major interconnected issues facing humanity: a rising demand for electricity, aging infrastructure, extreme weather, and an abundance of renewable resources with nowhere to go. She’s also joined by Alexina Jackson from The AES Corporation, Tapestry’s early innovation partner, who shares how technology like Tapestry is helping her team bring reliable, renewable energy to the communities they serve. Listen to the full episode, which explores how we’ll manage the growing energy needs of AI and the tools being developed to accelerate clean energy while ensuring homeowners, businesses, schools, and hospitals can literally keep the lights on: https://lnkd.in/gsh8xSUa.

“The world’s biggest problems end up being systems-level challenges.” Several Xers and our moonshots are featured in the upcoming season of “Where the Internet Lives,” an award-winning podcast and web series from Google that explores how data center infrastructure is a critical piece of building a more resilient world. This season spotlights stories about people creating data-driven solutions to some of humanity’s toughest problems—including Tapestry (our moonshot for the electric grid) and our moonshot for circulatory. Keep an eye out for the upcoming episodes!

“This is a moon worth shooting for.” Forbes contributor Eric Siegel explores how the Tapestry team is using AI to not only bring the electric grid into the modern era, but also provide the insights and information it needs to support clean energy. “We’re delivering [grid operators] not only a painkiller, but also a vitamin,” Tapestry’s Page Crahan told Siegel in a recent conversation. “We built this behemoth haphazardly, and yet we rely on it absolutely. Now we must fix it.” Forbes Contributor Eric Siegel explores how AI will be an essential component of maintaining a reliable, resilient electric grid as the world transitions to clean energy. He discusses how Tapestry is building a suite of AI-powered tools to support the grid of the future, and points to several examples of successful partnerships with grid operators from Michigan to New Zealand. “Keeping the grid working is critical,” Siegel writes, “but radically evolving it for a new future of energy is an even greater challenge.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gGHYpJnd

The electric grid is a vast, complex engineering marvel that connects us all. But it was built more than a century ago and is no longer equipped to meet today’s energy demands—especially when it comes to the adoption of renewable resources like wind and solar. As Tapestry’s Ravi Jain argues in a new whitepaper, the transformation of our power grid to digital is not a matter of “if,” but “how fast.” Published in partnership with Alexina Jackson and Colleen Lueken from The AES Corporation, “An Architecture for the Digital Grid” outlines a vision for a secure digital grid that we can move to safely, reliably, and affordably. Inspired by the internet, it outlines the structures, interactions and infrastructure that will be needed to make the transition to a digital grid and the critical role of AI in this process. It’s #ClimateWeekNYC, a chance for climate industry leaders and innovators from all over the world to come together and explore solutions for addressing this global crisis. This year’s Climate Week theme is “It’s Time,” which speaks to the urgency with which we need to act. More than 50 percent of our portfolio is focused on climate, and some of our leaders will be in New York City this week sharing updates from our projects and meet with potential collaborators. Hope to see you there!
