On 12 July 2024, a YSIAC Coffee Talk was held in Shanghai, China on career development for the young generation in international arbitration. The event was opened with remarks from Yuxian Zhao, Counsel, Han Kun Law Offices, and Gloria Lim, CEO, SIAC, followed by keynote speeches by Jennifer Lim, Co-Chair, YSIAC Council, and Mariana Zhong, APAC Lead, YSIAC Council. Moderated by Chengdong “C.D.” Xing, Member, YSIAC Council, the panel speakers Alan Li, Xin Liu, Michael (Haomin) Zhang, Yixuan Zhu, Members, YSIAC Council, Vivienne Li Weiyan, and Yang Liu, shared their views and experiences on career paths in international arbitration. As a side event of the SIAC China Conference 2024, the event provided a platform for younger arbitration talents to exchange ideas and build up connections. Cunyuan ZHANG, Director & Head, China, and Donghui Shen, Strategy & Development Manager, China, from our China office, represented the SIAC team at the event. The inaugural Riyadh International Disputes Week is just about to come to a close. To say that this week was a massive success for the Saudi arbitration landscape would be an understatement. Al Tamimi & Company - Dispute Resolution hosted a few sessions during the week which included a joint session with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and YSIAC on the Art of Cross-Examination, where we witnessed theatrical cross-examination performances before a tribunal which comprised of the SIAC Court of Arbitration president, Lucy Reed. We had a complete full house in our brand new Riyadh offices for both this as well as the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) joint session discussing the impact of culture in construction arbitrations. Many thanks to the CEO of SIAC, Gloria Lim as well as to Peter Chow from the IPBA and look forward to our continued collaboration. The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) held its first conference in Dubai on 15 November 2023 at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre with SIAC Registrar, Kevin Nash, opening the conference with a welcome address. The event saw more than 150 attendees including legal practitioners, experts from the international arbitration community and in-house counsel coming together to discuss and exchange views on international arbitration arising from disputes in the projects, energy and infrastructure sector as well as proposed changes to the 7th Edition of the SIAC Rules over two insightful panel discussions. SIAC Court Member, Mr Thomas R. Snider, ended the half-day conference with his closing remarks.
