MISSION
To provide, for the benefit of the public and policymakers, accurate and evidence-based information about science and engineering through the media, particularly on controversial and headline news stories when most confusion and misinformation occurs.

Today at World Cancer Research Fund we’ve launched our Policy Priorities for Cancer Prevention ahead of the next UK General Election on July 4th 📄 ⏳Now more than ever is a critical time to place cancer prevention high on the political agenda. In 2023, 184,000 potentially preventable cancer cases were diagnosed in the UK (out of an estimated 375,000 new annual cases)1. Without adequate policies and political will to address key risk factors such as a lack of accessibility to affordable, appealing and nutritious food, low levels of physical activity, alcohol consumption alongside socio-economic disparities and funding shortages, this number is only going to rise. 🧬Reducing preventable cancer cases and increasing survival rates through evidence-based policy actions is critical to see the health of the population thrive. That is why we’ve put together our main priority areas and specific policies to ensure the next government achieve this. 🍔One area I’m particularly passionate about seeing the incoming government swiftly bring over the line is implementing the delayed restrictions on less healthy food marketing and advertising restrictions on TV/online. This policy is already written into legislation but has been repeatedly delayed due to industry interference and, if delayed even further, places the legislation at an even greater risk of industry interference.
