Another successful transaction using the Bundesbank Triggersolution as part of the ECB trials! 🚀 We are proud to have been part of another significant milestone for the #digitalization of capital markets through #tokenization and #DLT! On October 8th, Cashlink, together with Wirtschafts- und Infrastrukturbank Hessen (WIBank), Helaba, and Bankhaus Metzler, successfully trialed the same-day (t+0) issuance and processing of a digital registered bond using the Trigger Solution of the Deutsche Bundesbank. Here’s how it unfolded: 💡 WIBank acted as the issuer of the registered bond. 💡Helaba functioned as the Cash Settlement Agent, managing payments through TARGET, the Eurosystem’s payment system. 💡Bankhaus Metzler was the purchaser of the bond. 💡Cashlink played acted as the tokenizer as well as Market DLT Operator, connecting the asset chain to the trigger solution of Bundesbank 💬 What does this mean for the financial future? The amount of project´s as part of the DLT trials of European Central Bank provide much value for the future of European financial markets. We are delighted to share insights from the latest World Economic Forum report on "Modernizing Financial Markets with Wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (wCBDC)," highlighting our pioneering work at SDX.   Since our launch in November 2021, SDX has emerged as a leading platform for digital securities markets, regulated by FINMA. With nearly a billion CHF worth of digital bonds issued, our commitment to innovation and compliance remains unwavering.   A cornerstone of SDX's infrastructure is the issuance of the Swiss franc token, "tCHF" (tokenized CHF), facilitating the seamless settlement of digital securities transactions on-chain. SIX Digital Exchange was very grateful to be asked to contribute to the World Economic Forum’s work exploring the role wCBDCs may play in the digital payments space. This is a great piece of work and my hat goes off to to Sandra Waliczek, Drew Propson and Cam Nili for this really outstanding report. I think that the piece really reflects where we in the journey towards the adoption of digital assets in capital markets. With its focus on precision of terminology and the specific implications of particular solutions within the payment space it shows that we are moving past the jargon-filled dialogue that, in the past, has hindered constructive conversation around the value and the challenges related to digital asset adoption. Stablecoins, tokenised deposits, central bank reserve backed digital currencies all have their uses but also very clear limitations. This is especially true in the context of the critical role that central bank money plays today in traditional markets and will continue to play in tokenized, blockchain based markets of the future but in tokenized form, i.e. wCBDC as the only tokenized form of risk free settlement asset. Only with wCBDC playing a foundational role in the overall architecture of the capital markets of the future will the entire structure have a solid architectural footing. So it is great to see such a well researched and comprehensive report focusing specifically on wholesale Central Bank Digital Currencies (wCBDC). Also gratifying to see the Swiss Financial Centre getting the recognition it deserves in the report which highlights Switzerland’s exceptional progress in this area. 98% of global central banks are exploring CBDC currently to enhance access and innovate the capabilities of central bank money. These advancements could aid in monitoring cross-border payments and reducing fraud. The World Bank, in partnership with the Swiss National Bank (Schweizerische Nationalbank) and SIX Digital Exchange (SDX), has issued the first digital bond in #Swiss Francs by an international entity, valued at #CHF 200 million. Utilising Distributed Ledger Technology (#DLT) and settling with #SNB’s wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (#wCBDC), this seven-year bond aims to advance capital market digitalisation and support sustainable development. Commerzbank AG acted as the sole lead manager, with #payments managed on the #SDX platform connected to Euroclear and Clearstream via SIX SIS. With the ongoing commercialization of distributed ledger technology #DLT and digital assets, the use of digital money going beyond central bank digital currencies #CBDCs is set to significantly increase, according to Citi’s latest and fourth edition of its Securities Services Evolution whitepaper series. 65% of respondents plan to use non-CBDC options like stablecoins, tokenized deposits, money market funds and digital payment systems to support cash and liquidity requirements for digital securities settlements by 2026, versus 15% who plan to use CBDCs. This is a stark contrast to the previous year where CBDCs were the preferred form of digital money at 52%. The whitepaper polled close to 500 market participants encompassing buy- and sell-side institutions and offers timely insights into the post-trade industry. The whitepaper also incorporates qualitative insights from 14 financial market infrastructures (FMIs) and for the first time, includes an in-depth regional view of the industry across Asia Pacific, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
