Knowing your customer is key to the success of any business but also of any non profit. In a time when food security is a hot topic I think it's incredibly important to know who ( and who is not) our customers are so we can serve them well! We are a non profit grocery store designed to meet the needs of families / single moms who are struggling with a short term financial challenge. Till now these folks have been falling through the cracks because they can't afford a retail grocery store and they do not want the hand out via an emergency food service. Don't get me wrong, emergency food handouts are very needed in our communities, however not everyone wants to go that route nor should that be the only option! When a crisis hits many parents desperately want to feed their own children, they just need to be able to afford it. Just because you lose your job or experience another crisis does not mean you are ready to throw in the towel and resort to accepting a hand out. Those are our people!! They find more than affordable food at one of our Markits. Our customers experience dignity, choice and convenience. We can meet their needs well because we know our customers well! Not sure about you but I think that is how we build a strong community. Community Share was founded in response to the growing issue of food insecurity in our community. The need was clear, and our initiative began with a simple yet profound mission: to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. 20 years of alleviating hunger later, our commitment remains as the need grows. CSFB usage has skyrocketed over the past few years, with a 130% increase since 2019. Change is long overdue. Today is World Hunger Day, a time to reflect on the critical issue of food insecurity affecting millions worldwide, including its significant impact here in the U.S. According to a 2024 report from Feeding America: 🌍 Food insecurity exists in all 3,144 counties and county equivalents as well as all 435 congressional districts in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. 🌎 Child food insecurity rates reach almost 50% in some counties across the U.S. 🌏 The national average cost per meal, which reflects how much money people who are food secure report spending on food, has also reached its highest point in the last two decades.
