🛡️ New rules on cybersecurity of critical entities and networks are closer to become a reality. The first implementing rules under the NIS2 Directive were adopted today. This includes cybersecurity risk-management measures as well as the cases in which an incident should be considered significant and companies providing digital infrastructures and services should report it to national authorities. The adoption date of the implementing regulation coincides with the transposition date of the NIS2 Directive into national laws across all the EU countries. As of tomorrow, Member States must apply the measures necessary to comply with the NIS2 cybersecurity rules. The NIS2 Directive is the first EU-wide law on cybersecurity that helps achieve a common high level of security of network and information systems across the EU. It covers entities operating in sectors that are critical for the economy and society, from providers of public electronic communications services, ICT service management and digital services to wastewater and waste management, space, health, energy, transport and more. The NIS2 cybersecurity rules strengthen security requirements imposed on the companies and addresses the security of supply chains and supplier relationships. Today, the European Commission concluded that the online social networking service of X should not be designated as a core platform service under the Digital Markets Act. The decision comes after an in-depth market investigation and a thorough assessment of the rebuttal arguments submitted by X, in which the platform stated why its online social networking service should not qualify as an important gateway between businesses and consumers. Following a detailed assessment of all arguments and upon consulting relevant stakeholders, as well as the Digital Markets Advisory Committee, the Commission concluded that X does indeed not qualify as a gatekeeper in relation to its online social networking service. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, over 200 000 museum items were relocated to be saved by destruction due to the shelling that, according to UNESCO, as of today already destroyed 412 heritage sites.      Meanwhile, digitalising the Ukrainian cultural heritage is no small challenge. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine estimates around 12 million physical objects not yet catalogued or digitised, distributed between 12 500 museums all around the country, though only 10% of these are equipped with the technical means to save their items in a digital form. Equipment such as scanners, cameras, storage devices will be shipped to museums, and other cultural institutions in Ukraine to support their effort to save and preserve their artistic and cultural heritage, which is not only Ukrainian, but also a part of the European and global history.     🔗 If you or your institution would like to donate, find out more details and our contact information here: laptopsforukraine.com #LaptopsForUkraine #DigitalEU #Donations #Ukraine #EU 📷 Wachiwit/1385646059 via Getty Images

📡 Fast and secure connectivity networks are key to achieve Europe’s digital transformation. With the adopted second work programme for the Connecting Europe Facility Digital, the EU is investing €865 million to improve its advanced digital connectivity infrastructures in the next 4 years. The new work programme sets the scope and goals of the EU-supported connectivity projects to boost faster and more secure networks across the EU. It will support actions in the areas of: 🔵 deployment of 5G infrastructures, including promoting the rollout of Gigabit and standalone 5G infrastructures as well as the integration of edge cloud and computing capabilities in sectors, such as health, transport or logistics. 🔵 deployment and significant upgrade of backbone networks, incl. quantum comms networks and submarine cables, to increase their performance, resilience, and capacity of connectivity. 🔵 deployment of operational digital platforms for transport or energy infrastructures. Through these actions, CEF Digital stimulates the competitiveness of the European digital ecosystem. It also aims to increase the capacity, security, and resilience of digital backbone networks, in particular submarine cables. CEF Digital also helps tackle the investment gap that delays the rollout of high-performance networks, crucial for the use of advanced technologies by citizens and businesses. 🔗Press release: https://europa.eu/!dDTDxx 🔗Work programme: https://europa.eu/!b74W66 🔗More on CEF Digital: https://europa.eu/!bcVDUV #CEFDigital #DigitalEU #Connectivity #5G #Gigabit #EU
