Abstract:
We report results from a study of hadronic transitions of the $χ_{bJ}(nP)$ states of bottomonium at Belle. The $P$-wave states are reconstructed in transitions to the $Υ(1S)$ with the emission of an $ω$ meson. The $P$-wave states are reconstructed in transitions to the $Υ(1S)$ with the emission of an $ω$ meson. The transitions of the $n=2$ triplet states provide a unique laboratory in which to study nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, as the kinematic threshold for production of an $ω$ and $Υ(1S)$ lies between the $J=0$ and $J=1$ states. A search for the $χ_{bJ}(3P)$ states is also reported.

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ proceed via tree-level $b\to u$ and penguin $b\to s$ transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays $B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} $ are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for $B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime}$ has been measured so far.

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations.

We report measurements of the production cross sections of charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of fractional energy, the event-shape variable called thrust, and the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These measurements access the transverse momenta created in the fragmentation process, which are of critical importance to the understanding of any transverse momentum dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. The low transverse momentum part of the cross sections can be well described by Gaussians in transverse momentum as is generally assumed but the fractional-energy dependence is non-trivial and different hadron types have varying Gaussian widths. The width of these Gaussians decreases with thrust and shows an initially rising, then decreasing fractional-energy dependence. The widths for pions and kaons are comparable within uncertainties, while those for protons are significantly narrower. These single-hadron cross sections and Gaussian widths are obtained from a $558\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider.

We report on the first Belle search for a light CP-odd Higgs boson, $A^{0}$, that decays into low mass dark matter, $χ$, in final states with a single photon and missing energy. We search for events produced via the dipion transition $Υ(\textrm{2S})\rightarrowΥ(\textrm{1S})π^{+}π^{-}$, followed by the on-shell process $Υ(\textrm{1S})\rightarrowγA^{0}$ with $A^{0} \rightarrowχχ$, or by the off-shel…

We report on the first Belle search for a light CP-odd Higgs boson, $A^{0}$, that decays into low mass dark matter, $χ$, in final states with a single photon and missing energy. We search for events produced via the dipion transition $Υ(\textrm{2S})\rightarrowΥ(\textrm{1S})π^{+}π^{-}$, followed by the on-shell process $Υ(\textrm{1S})\rightarrowγA^{0}$ with $A^{0} \rightarrowχχ$, or by the off-shell process $Υ(\textrm{1S})\rightarrowγχχ$. Utilizing a data sample of 157.3 $\times$ 10$^{6}$ $Υ(\textrm{2S})$ decays, we find no evidence for a signal. We set limits on the branching fractions of such processes in the mass ranges $M_{A^{0}} <$ 8.97 $\textrm{GeV/}\textit{c}^{2}$ and $M_χ <$ 4.44 $\textrm{GeV/}\textit{c}^{2}$. We then use the limits on the off-shell process to set competitive limits on WIMP-nucleon scattering in the WIMP mass range below 5 $\textrm{GeV/}\textit{c}^{2}$.

For inclusive $Λ/\barΛ$ production, we also report results with subtracted feed-down contributions from $Σ^0$ and charm. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the $Λ/\barΛ$ hyperon.

We report measurements of isospin asymmetry $Δ_{0-}$ and difference of direct $CP$ asymmetries $ΔA_{CP}$ between charged and neutral $B \to X_s γ$ decays. This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. Using a sum-of-exclusive technique with invariant $X_s$ mass up to 2.8~GeV/$c^2$, we obtain $Δ_{0-} = \bigl[-0.48 \pm 1.49 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.97 {\rm (syst.)} \pm 1.15 {(f_{+-}/f_{00})}\bigr]$\% and $ΔA_{CP} = \bigl[+3.69 \pm 2.65 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.76{\rm (syst.)}\bigr]$\%, where the last uncertainty for $Δ_{0-}$ is due to the uncertainty on the production ratio of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ in $Υ(4S)$ decays. The measured value of $Δ_{0-}$ is consistent with zero, allowing us to constrain the resolved photon contribution in the $B \to X_s γ$, and improve the branching fraction prediction. The result for $ΔA_{CP}$ is consistent with the prediction of the SM. We also measure the direct $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B \to X_s γ$ decays. All the measurements are the most precise to date.

No significant signals are observed in any of the studied modes, and the 90\% credibility level upper limits on their product branching fractions in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays (${\cal B}(Υ(1S,2S)\to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(\prime) -}_{c})\times{\cal B}(Z^{+}_{c}\toπ^{+}+c\bar c)$ ($c\bar c=J/ψ$, $χ_{c1}(1P)$, $ψ(2S)$)) and the product of Born cross section and branching fraction for $e^{+}e^{-} \to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(\prime) -}_{c}$ ($σ(e^+e^- \to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(\prime) -}_{c})\times {\cal B}(Z^{+}_{c} \to π^+ +c\bar c)$) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.52, 10.58, and 10.867 GeV are determined. Here, $Z_{c}$ refers to the $Z_{c}(3900)$ and $Z_{c}(4200)$ observed in the $πJ/ψ$ final state, the $Z_{c1}(4050)$ and $Z_{c2}(4250)$ in the $πχ_{c1}(1P)$ state, and the $Z_{c}(4050)$ and $Z_{c}(4430)$ in the $πψ(2S)$ state.

We measure $\sin{2β} = 0.80 \pm 0.14 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.06 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.03 \,(\rm{model})$ and $\cos{2β} = 0.91 \pm 0.22 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.09 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.07 \,(\rm{model})$. The result for the direct measurement of the angle is $β= \left( 22.5 \pm 4.4 \,(\rm{stat.}) \pm 1.2 \,(\rm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 \,(\rm{model}) \right)^{\circ}$. The last quoted uncertainties are due to the composition of the $D^{0} \to K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-}$ decay amplitude model, which is newly established by a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of a high-statistics $e^{+}e^{-} \to c\bar{c}$ data sample as part of this analysis. We find the first evidence for $\cos2β>0$ at the level of $3.7$ standard deviations. The measurement excludes the trigonometric multifold solution $π/2 - β= (68.1 \pm 0.7)^{\circ}$ at the level of $7.3$ standard deviations and therefore resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle. The hypothesis of $β= 0^{\circ}$ is ruled out at the level of $5.1$ standard deviations, and thus CP violation is observed in $B^{0} \to D^{(*)} h^{0}$ decays.

The signal events are selected based on the presence of a high momentum muon and the topology of the rest of the event showing properties of a generic $B$-meson decay, as well as the missing energy and momentum being consistent with the hypothesis of a neutrino from the signal decay. We find a 2.4 standard deviation excess above background including systematic uncertainties, which corresponds to a branching fraction of ${\cal B}(B^{-}\toμ^{-}\barν_μ) =(6.46 \pm 2.22 \pm 1.60 )\times10^{-7}$ or a frequentist 90% confidence level interval on the $B^{-}\toμ^{-}\barν_μ$ branching fraction of $[2.9, 10.7]\times 10^{-7}$. These results are based on a data sample of 759 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. For the first time, the transition form factor of the $f_2'(1525)$ meson is measured separately for the helicity-0, -1, and -2 components and also compared with theoretical calculations. Finally, the partial decay widths of the $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c2}$ mesons are measured as a function of $Q^2$.

No significant signals are observed in any of the studied production modes, and 90\% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their branching fractions in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays into final states with $f_1(1285)$ are measured to be ${\cal B}(Υ(1S)\to f_1(1285)+anything)=(46\pm28({\rm stat.})\pm13({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(Υ(2S)\to f_1(1285)+anything)=(22\pm15({\rm stat.})\pm6.3({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$. The measured $χ_{b2} \to J/ψ+ anything$ branching fraction is measured to be $(1.50\pm0.34({\rm stat.})\pm0.22({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-3}$, and 90\% C.L. upper limits for the $χ_{b0,b1} \to J/ψ+ anything$ branching fractions are found to be $2.3\times 10^{-3}$ and $1.1\times 10^{-3}$, respectively. For ${\cal B}(χ_{b1} \to ω+ anything)$, the branching fraction is measured to be $(4.9\pm1.3({\rm stat.})\pm0.6({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-2}$. %($<3.68\times 10^{-2}$ at 90\% C.L.). All results reported here are the first measurements for these modes.

We present a measurement of the Michel parameters of the $τ$ lepton, $\barη$ and $ξκ$, in the radiative leptonic decay $τ^- \rightarrow \ell^- ν_τ \barν_{\ell} γ$ using 711~f$\mathrm{b}^{-1}$ of collision data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The Michel parameters are measured in an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic distribution of $e^+e^-\rightarrowτ^+τ^-\rightarrow (π^+π^0 \barν_τ)(\ell^-ν_τ\barν_{\ell}γ)$ $(\ell=e$ or $μ)$. The measured values of the Michel parameters are $\barη = -1.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.8$ and $ξκ= 0.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first measurement of these parameters. These results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions within their uncertainties and constrain the coupling constants of the generalized weak interaction.

We do not observe significant signals for $X(3872)$ nor $X(3915)$, and set the 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits: ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3872) K^{+} )<2.7 \times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3915) K^{+} )<2.9 \times 10^{-4}$. The $τ$ polarization $P_τ(D^*)$ in two-body hadronic $τ$ decays is measured, as well as the ratio of the branching fractions $R(D^{*}) = \mathcal{B}(\bar {B} \rightarrow D^* τ^- \barν_τ) / \mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^* \ell^- \barν_\ell)$, where $\ell^-$ denotes an electron or a muon. Our results, $P_τ(D^*) = -0.38 \pm 0.51 {\rm (stat)} ^{+0.21}_{-0.16} {\rm (syst)}$ and $R(D^*) = 0.270 \pm 0.035{\rm (stat)} ^{+0.028}_{-0.025}{\rm (syst)}$, are consistent with the theoretical predictions of the Standard Model. The polarization values of $P_τ(D^*) > +0.5$ are excluded at the 90\% confidence level.

We search for the decay $Υ(1^3D_{1,2})\toηΥ(1S)$, but do not find significant evidence for such a transition. We also measure the initial state radiation production cross sections of the $Υ(2S,3S)$ resonances and we find values compatible with the expected ones. Finally, the analysis of the $Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(1S)$ events shows indications for a resonant contribution due to the $f_0(980)$ meson.

This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1$σ$, $Δ_{0+} = (+6.2 \pm 1.5 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.6 ({\rm syst.}) \pm 1.2 (f_{+-}/f_{00}))$\%, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ production in $Υ(4S)$ decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the SM. The result for the difference of $CP$ asymmetries is $ΔA_{CP} = (+2.4 \pm 2.8({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.5({\rm syst.}))$\%, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$ to $B_s^0 \to φγ$.

The inclusive cross sections for di-hadrons of charged pions and kaons ($e^+e^- \rightarrow hhX$) in electron-positron annihilation are reported. They are obtained as a function of the total fractional energy and invariant mass for any di-hadron combination in the same hemisphere as defined by the thrust event-shape variable and its axis. Since same-hemisphere di-hadrons can be assumed to originate predominantly from the same initial parton, di-hadron fragmentation functions are probed. These di-hadron fragmentation functions are needed as an unpolarized baseline in order to quantitatively understand related spin-dependent measurements in other processes and to apply them to the extraction of quark transversity distribution functions in the nucleon. The di-hadron cross sections are obtained from a $655\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected at or near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider.

We measure the inclusive production cross sections of hyperons and charmed baryons from $e^+e^-$ annihilation using a 800 fb$^{-1}$ data sample taken near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The feed-down contributions from heavy particles are subtracted using our data, and the direct production cross sections are presented for the first time. The production cross sections divided by the number of spin states for $S=-1$ hyperons follow an exponential function with a single slope parameter except for the $Σ(1385)^+$ resonance. Suppression for $Σ(1385)^+$ and $Ξ(1530)^0$ hyperons is observed. Among the production cross sections of charmed baryons, a factor of three difference for $Λ_c^+$ states over $Σ_c$ states is observed. This observation suggests a diquark structure for these baryons.

Abstract:
We report a study of the decay $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ using 921~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The measured time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry is $ A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.17) \%$, and the branching fraction is…

These results are significantly more precise than previous measurements available for this mode. The $A_{CP}$ measurement is consistent with the standard model expectation.

Abstract:
We report a study of the charmless hadronic decay of the charged $B$ meson to the three-body final state $K^+ K^- π^+$. The results are based on a data sample that contains $772\times10^6$ $B \bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The measured inclusive branching fraction and the direct $CP$ asymmetry are…

The results are based on a data sample that contains $772\times10^6$ $B \bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The measured inclusive branching fraction and the direct $CP$ asymmetry are $(5.38\pm0.40\pm0.35)\times 10^{-6}$ and $-0.170\pm0.073\pm0.017$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The $K^{+}K^{-}$ invariant mass distribution of the signal candidates shows an excess in the region below $1.5$ GeV/$c^2$, which is consistent with the previous studies from BaBar and LHCb. In addition, strong evidence of a large direct $CP$ asymmetry is found in the $K^{+}K^{-}$ low-invariant-mass region.

We measure the branching fraction and $CP$ violation asymmetry in the decay $B^{0}\to π^{0}π^{0}$, using a data sample of $752\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The obtained branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $ \mathcal{B}(B\to π^{0}π^{0}) = [1.31 \pm 0.19~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.19~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6}$ and $
A_{CP} = +0.14 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}, $ respectively. The signal significance, including the systematic uncertainty, is 6.4 standard deviations. We combine these results with Belle's earlier measurements of $B^{0}\to π^{+} π^{-}$ and $B^{\pm} \to π^{\pm} π^{0}$ to exclude the $CP$-violating parameter $φ_{2}$ from the range $15.5^{\circ} < φ_{2} < 75.0^{\circ}$ at 95\% confidence level.
