WikiProject templates

Hi, given all the accusations you made about "imperialism" I'd just like to say that I'm sorry if you thought that I was trying to usurp your WikiProject. My goal is to give people an optional feature that would help make sure that articles are in the right task forces in addition to the Montreal project alg would standardize the looks of the tags. It was never my intention to force your WikiProject to change its internal structure. I still think that a merged template would be best for the article organization, but I hope we can find a way of doing it that makes the city projects happy. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 20:48, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what you could call it other than "imperialism" when WPCANADA's importance scaling is imposed on non-WPCANADA wikiprojects, without consultation, by fiat. It's still there, in the "default importance" suggestion, since that is also a rating that has no relation to the importance scaling of the city projects. If you were just giving the option of adding a flag, why force the importance ratings? WPCARIBBEAN, WPAFRICA, etc have separate importance ratings for their member country projects, but your edit did not allow a separate importance rating. (Several of the wikiprojects also have separate banners, in addition to the unified banner). Whatever your intent, it results in the more active wikiproject (WPCANADA) dictating terms to the less active projects (the cities).
As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And you performed this feature without seeking consensus.

Again, my goal is not to "impose" anything on anyone. I'm suggesting that we default to the Canada importance is to save the city projects work. A lot of people don't bother assessing importance for articles that will clearly be low-importance to every project, or will only assess it for the project that they are interested it such as the roads project or the community project and will ignore the city project. Not having a default means thousands of extra edits for the cities projects to tag all those articles as low-importance, but if you don't mind making those edits, go ahead. I recommend getting AutoWikiBrowser. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 16:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the advantage in rating high, top or mid importance articles as low by default, when being unrated by default will catch low importance articles without the need ti have a mistaken impression that higher importance articles ae low importances.
Imposing the WPCANADA ratings by default is still imposing the WPCANDA ratings. Being unrated is better than being classed as low class for all the wrong reasons. What's wrong with leaving it unrated? It's much better than being rated as low just because you want to rate something, even if it's impossibly wrong.
