Rafael Perez-Jimenez was born in Madrid in 1965. He holds Eng. & MSc (UPM - 1991) and Ph.D. (ULPGC 1995, Honors) degrees, and recently received his Ph.D. in History (ULL,2020). He has been a full professor at the School of Telecommunications and Engineering of ULPGC (Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria) since 2003. He was Chairman of IDedTIC (University Institute for Technological Development and Innovation in Communications) from 2010 to 2020. Currently, he coordinates the Communication Technologies and Photonics area of the Spanish Research Agency. He has participated or directed 12 transnational projects, over 25 national projects in competitive calls, and a score of relevant contracts with companies and administrations. He has published 4 teaching books, 5 book chapters, and over 250 peer-reviewed papers on journals and international technical conferences. He is a frequent reviewer in different international magazines and symposia. His main area of specialization corresponds to the development of wireless optical communications systems, especially for sensor networks and medium/low data rate links, as well as channel characterization for indoors and mobile systems.
