Remarks:
C. C. Danley was the long-time editor of the Arkansas Gazette and friend of the artist Henry Byrd. He often included laudatory remarks in his editorials about the artist and his work. Danley served with the Arkansas Regiment during the Mexican War, was mustered out of service in 1848, and returned to Little Rock. He was elected auditor of the state and served for four years under governors Roane and Conway. He also worked as Arkansas Land Agent. In 1858, he made a successful bid for the Arkansas State Senate. In 1860, he was elected to the Military Board, and assisted in the purchase of munitions. He published his last issue of the Arkansas Gazette in 1863. On May 10, 1865, he and his former partner W. F. Holtzman revived the Gazette, and after the war began daily issues of the paper. He died on Oct. 3, 1865 in the offices of the Arkansas Gazette.
