Rich Cowan is set to direct The River Sorrow from a script by Steve Anderson. Ray Liotta will play a detective hunting a serial killer in the film. According to Variety, Christian Slater and Ving Rhames will also star as an FBI agent and a friend of Liotta's character, respectively. Gisele Fraga and Sarah Ann Schultz co-star. Cowan directed Shadow of Fear in 2004 and is an executive producer on John Carpenter's The Ward .

Ray Liotta, Ving Rhames and Christian Slater are to star in the Rich Cowan (Shadow of Fear, The Basket)-directed The River Sorrow. Steve Anderson wrote the screenplay which stars Liotta as a detective on the trail of a serial killer. Slater's character is an FBI agent who is overseeing the case and Rhames is Liotta's captain and friend. Other cast who have signed on include Gisele Fraga (TV's Uma Rosa com Amor, Brida) and Sarah Ann Schultz (Blonde Ambition, End Game). Cowan, Tay Voye, Dan Toll and Schultz are producing and filming starts in Washington next week.
