Abstract

In contemporary educational landscapes, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly prevalent, promising transformative potentials in teaching and learning. This proposal for a round table presentation will delve into the intersection of AI technology and ethical practices within educational settings, aiming to foster discussion on how to empower educators to navigate and cultivate ethical considerations in their pedagogical approaches. Through the lens of generative AI, we will discuss the role of AI tools in supporting educators to foster ethical awareness, critical thinking, and responsible decision-making among students. In addition, based on case uses at BCIT, we will discuss the importance of comprehensive training and ongoing professional development for educators to effectively harness the potential of AI technologies while mitigating associated ethical risk, and the role Learning and Teaching Centres can play in supporting faculty while influencing strategic direction at the institutional level.
