What a wonderful initiative, Elaine and Jim. Association for Information Systems will be richer with a Canadian Chapter.
One of the largest geographical areas and groups of IS scholars in the AIS that is not currently covered by an AIS Chapter is Canada and Canadians respectively. A proposal to establish a Chapter covering this Region 1 group is being prepared and input on its formation is being sought from potential members. The Canadian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (CANAIS) will be a Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) serving Canada and Canadians. The purpose of the Chapter will be to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge among scholars and professionals in Canada – and Canadian scholars and professionals employed in other countries – engaged in the development, management, and use of information systems and technology. The various activities of the CANAIS will be to promote the exchange of professional communications among scholars and professionals responsible for education, design, implementation, and management of information systems in both private and public organizations. The proposed activities of the Chapter include: · Providing a locally-focused forum for those concerned with all aspects of information systems; · Providing an opportunity for the exchange of ideas concerning the management of information systems with member counterparts; · Conducting locally-focused programs and conferences for the benefit of members; and · Providing a means for critical examination of the problems and opportunities associated with information systems in Canada. As part of the development of the proposal, we are seeking current AIS members who either are working in Canada or are Canadians abroad to be a founding member of CANAIS or to serve on the Executive Committee or the Advisory Board for the Chapter. In addition, we are seeking input from potential members on its future activities and development in order to refine its value proposition to members. Please contact either Elaine Mosconi ([email protected]) or Jim Denford ([email protected]) by 15 January 2024 if you are interested in being a founding member of CANAIS, serving it in an executive or advisory capacity, or providing advice and guidance on its activities and value proposition.

It was an honor to give the keynote at the Doctoral Consortium during the #WISIC. I tremendously enjoyed the interesting discussions and exciting suggestions for researching human-technology connections. UQ Business School
🙌💡 #WISIC2023 #Doktorierenden #Researchprogress

Partnering with#Mendixand#Sharoma, an Indigenous Corporation in Queensland, providedUQ Business Schoolstudents with enriched Indigenous learning experiences and respectful opportunities to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in a digital software#artifact. Indigenous netball girls in Townsville and Brisbane benefit from using the Sharoma app to sign up for the Indigenous Diamonds Pathway Program. I sincerely thank Aunty Roma and the Indigenous netball coaches for sharing their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and allowing the students,The University of Queenslandteaching team, and me to learn from them.
Since 2020, over 2,000 UQ Business School students have learned low-code with Mendix as part of the Business Information Systems course run by Associate Professor Sabine Matook During this time, students have helped deliver applications for a number of not-for-profit organizations, including Variety - the Children's Charity of Queensland, Brisbane Living Heritage, and most recently, a local indigenous organization #Sharoma. This has not only helped give back to the local community and worthy organizations but also provided enriched learning experiences and opportunities to the students whilst enhancing their employability with in-demand skills. We're grateful for the support and collaboration with UQ and Professor Matook. We can't wait to see what the students build in the future! https://spkl.io/60424YCyA
