The 2024–25 NBA G League season will be the 24th season of the NBA G League, the minor league basketball league of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
League changes
[edit]For the start of the 2024–25 season, the NBA G League added one new franchise, lost one franchise, and relocated another franchise:
- The Ontario Clippers relocated to San Diego and rebranded as the San Diego Clippers.[1] The rebrand there is to pay homage to the Los Angeles Clippers' previous home in San Diego back when they played under the same name from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
- The NBA shut down the franchise NBA G League Ignite after four seasons.[2] Their decision to shut down the Ignite franchise related to the positive progress involved with student athlete compensation since the franchise was first created.
- Phoenix launched its new G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, this season in Tempe, Arizona, becoming the 31st NBA G League franchise.[3] This would be the first time the Phoenix franchise would affiliate themselves with a G League team properly since the prematurely cancelled 2019–20 season after their previous G League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns, were sold to Detroit the following season and cancelled play during that same season.
- This also became the first season where every NBA team would be affiliated with their own G League team. The only G League team to not have an NBA affiliate at this point is the Mexico City Capitanes.
- The Showcase Cup was renamed to the Tip–Off Tournament.
