Research on the development of standards in database format based on the analysis of technical elements of standards

Published: 15 October 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Standards in database format (or standard as database, hereafter referred to as SDB) meet the needs for the convenient use and quick update of standards in relevant sectors. Although it demonstrates unique advantages distinct from traditional standards in paper or PDF format, its development has been slow. The underlying reasons include a lack of in-depth research on the inherent characteristics of SDB and under what circumstances it should be developed and so on. This article explores solutions to the problem from the perspective of technical elements analysis of standards. Based on the analysis of technical elements of standards, this article studies the forms of existence of SDB and the possibility for technical elements in different types of standards to be developed into database-formatted content, finds that existing SDBs primarily exist in two ways and the core technical elements of terminology standards, symbol standards, and classification standards are easy to be developed into database-formatted content, while other types of standards are difficult .Finally, this article puts forward suggestions for the development of standards in database format in China.
